Guêpière: what it is, how to wear it and how to choose your size
The guêpière is the lingerie piece that defines the waist: a shaping band that starts below the bust or at the waist and runs down to the hips, often with garters to attach stockings. Born in French corsetry, today it is worn both as lingerie and, in the lighter styles, on show under a jacket.

What a guêpière is
The name comes from the French guêpe, wasp: the garment draws a "wasp waist", gently cinching the waist and enhancing the hips. Compared with a traditional corset it is shorter and softer, and usually has no rigid boning.
In the FP Lingerie collections, guêpières are made in lace or tulle, with adjustable elastics and hooks, and pair with the bra and briefs of the same style to form a set.
Guêpière, suspender belt and bustier: the differences
- Guêpière: a band that wraps the waist and hips, often with garters. It shapes the silhouette.
- Suspender belt: a slimmer band, designed mainly to hold up stockings.
- Bustier: also covers the bust, with built-in cups.
How to wear it
- As a set: with the matching bra and thong, for a polished lingerie look.
- With stockings: clipping the stockings to the garters, for a more classic effect.
- On show: lace styles look great over a bodysuit or under an open jacket.
How to choose your size
For a guêpière, what matters is your waist and hip measurements. This is the chart used for FP Lingerie briefs and guêpières:
| Size | Waist (cm) | Hips (cm) |
|---|---|---|
| S (38–40) | 63–68 | 88–93 |
| M (42–44) | 69–74 | 94–99 |
| L (46–48) | 75–80 | 100–105 |
If you are between two sizes, choose based on your waist measurement. You will find all the charts in the size guide. If you have any questions, write to us on WhatsApp at +39 392 496 4112 or at info@federicaparmeggiani.com.
How to wash it
Lace and tulle are delicate: hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent, without wringing, and leave to dry flat. Always follow the instructions on the label.
